Frequently Asked Questions
The Questions Owner's Are Asking About petFINDER™

Why Do I Need A Better ID Tag?
Because getting a lost pet back is NOT about finding the pet It’s About Finding The Owner….AND THAT’S WHAT A PET TAG DOES!
Millions of pets are brought into shelters every year,  However only about 10% are ever returned. In almost every case it’s because the owner could not be found. An ID tag is the first line of defense in getting a lost pet home…BUT, it’s only as effective as it’s ability to find the owner. An owner needs to know that if their pet I ever lost, they can quickly be reached.

What’s Wrong With A Metal Tag … They’ve Been Around For Years?
YES, we’ve used them for years; but times have changed and  the traditional metal tag is no longer as effective. Today’s pet owner is more mobile and on the go. They’re no longer tied to just one number; often having several numbers where they can be reached. With its limited space and no flexibility to change the info, which number(s) do you choose…..and what about traveling with your pet? A temporary travel tag is a nice idea…but not realistic.

I Have A Cell Phone….Isn’t That All I Need?
Many owners are now using a cell number.  However, in many situations you need to decide which cell number(s) to use; husband, wife, second cell, etc. You’re forced to make a  choice. ALSO, do you really want to trust your pet’s safe return to just a cell phone alone given reception and battery life being two big issues?

Doesn’t Everyone Keep Their Pet’s ID Tag Up To Date?
It’s a critical, but under reported issue;  pets coming into shelters with ID tags (and/or micro-chips)…but the contact info is out of date and  owners can’t be reached.. We love our pets, but we live in a busy, “Set it and Forget it” world. We may not remember to check our pets tag or chip to ensure the info is current.  What if your pet is lost and the contact info isn’t current OR perhaps the info is current, but when your pet goes missing, you can’t be reached at the listed number? The answer is simple, but brutal….it’s too late to do anything AND you’re not getting that all important call from the person with your pet

My Pet Has A Micro‐Chip…Isn’t That Enough?
A Micro‐chip is a necessary ID solution every owner should consider…. BUT it’s a back‐up to an ID tag. It allows a shelter to reach an owner if the pet has no tag or it came off. However it also means someone must take the pet to a proper facility before attempts are made to reach the owner….and who knows how long that might be. An ID tag is quick and easy. Assuming the contact number connects to the owner (see above) a simple phone call is all it takes to return a lost pet. For this reason a Micro‐chip should NEVER be considered as a standalone ID solution or replacement for a tag. For ultimate peace of mind owner’s will make sure to have both: ID Tag AND Micro‐Chip.
